I said I would go into more detail about Dante and the Devil May Cry franchise in the next post so here it goes. The first game started with Dante setting up a dective agency in order to hunt down the demon that killed his mother and brother. Please keep not that around this time Dante was half demon. The first game gameplay was new for the time close courtier sword combat with long rang gun able to mix with each other at any minute. After the game debued others copied the style. also the new idea of devil arms was a nice trade mark. Dante technically had two and I will explain how that works later. These weapons had a feel on their own that you wont find in games. For instance the devil arms you come across is a sword that once against impale Dante. It doesn’t kill him of course but that was one hell of an entrance. These weapons allowed Dante to use Devil trigger. A forum that turned Dante into a demon that shared the same characteristics of the devil arm he was using. The story was one you have heard before the guy wants revenge for his family. A mysterious woman gives the lead needs and deals with top lt. along the way meanwhile exposing the real plan of Mundos the over all boss of the game.
Where the first game was great the second game wasn’t. From story to game play it just didn’t work. Where the combat was intense in the first one the second seemed toned down as the animes didn;t really come after you. Because of this you can chip at them and come in when you want to. This tactic worked all the time even on bosses. Also the devil arms were gone and replaced with swords that differed in appearance and weight. Each one can be fitted with a devil heart that lent it elemental power. The story wasn’t much either. A lovely lady once again pays Dante a visit except this time she needs his help to save her island from some rich demon summoning tycoon. I am not lying when I say this but only took one day and night to bet it.
The third installment was the franchise return to fame. Dante is just getting the shop open when his brother Virgil sends him some demons to play with him. lady a human devil hunter joins Dante on this journey. There are plenty of bosses and cool devil arms to go with them. Cerbus the second boss you meet is a three head dog with an attitude will not let you pass. You make regret his choice and receive a way into the demonic tower where Virgil awaits you and three section nunchuk. Even though this was relaunch of the game it showed us what Virgil looked like before he became the neo angle boss from the first game.
The fourth installment is here and a new main character has taken the helm. Nero who wears a blue trench coat and wields one gun is now the focus of this tale. He is introduced to Dante by seeing him kill the head of his order. Nero then goes after him using his modified sword and a demonic arm. Along the way he finds out that the order he works for may not be on the side of good as he thoughts. During that time he runs into the devil arm that Virgil used and it awakens his latin demon powers. His devil trigger is him projecting a demon using the devil arm instead of him. Also while in devil trigger mode he is surrounded by a blue glow. The woman that he say as a sister is Kyrie. The lovely woman who was singing in the open credits. Dante style that was introduced in the third installment appeared in this game as well when you take over.
The fifth installment is here and once again it is a reboot of the series focusing on Dante teenage years and why he hates demons with such passion. I share this information with you so that you know a little more. Now to cover some trivia. Through out the franchise life cycle Dante has changed from half demon to the son of devil god to half demon and half angle. The series has been rebooted twice now and Dante has lost his white hair. His devil arms change in every game. For those wondering about why he appeared in veitiful joe is because the team behind joe made the first Devil May Cry. Upon hearing this you hear the name Enzo. Enzo according to Veiwtiful Joe universe stool Dante closes and pretended to be him in the second game. Also Trish the woman from the first game was playable second character in the Devil May Cry 2. This game was so dislike that while Trish and Lady make appearances in other entries or media of the series the woman from the second installment doesn’t. For people wondering in the fourth game if the main boss sounds familiar it is because he also plays Gaara on Naruto as well as that sick captain on bleach Jiroshio. (Please don’t come after me because i got the name wrong. I apologize in advance.) Also Jonny Young Blouch plays the voice of Nero. Dante makes one appearance in atlus Shin magame title as well. Another note about Nero he was is somehow related to Dante by Sparda and also to some demon that the first boss knows. I didn’t mention it earlier because the matter was only mentioned once. After that battle the subject about this mysterious good demon is never mentioned again.
For those who wanted to know the history of Devil May Cry this is for you. Thank you for reading.
