For those for have been following you I have been dying to see the anime Blood Blockade Battlefront or Kekkai Sensen and now we have two episodes out and I am ready to tell you my thoughts. I couldn’t give my thoughts before as I wanted to see the tone the show was going for and with these two episodes I think I get it.
First Off though let me explain what Blood Blockade Battlefront is. Set in a New York city that thanks to a portal to the underworld is now called Jerusalem Lot. their a team of super humans (who are part super natural in one way or another) try to keep the balance as those from the underworld called Beyond try to break out. First of the anime is stylish and brings the manga to life as one would expect from Studio Bones. This is an action comedy where in the spare time the characters all have quarks that get you laughing but yet get serious when it is time to fight like Full Metal Alchemist or Soul Eater. The cast who can throw down use their blood as the base of their fighting style in one way or another.
Most of the time we are seeing through Leonadro Watch eyes as he is the newest member but it shifts once things get going. We start off with Krause who is in charge of the group, Zapp who is a powerful swordsman who seems to be just a foot soldier in the operation. Chie is intelligence and this last episode the second one we see Stephan the second in command and Gilbert the butler to Krause. As with most animes the cast expands so get use to seeing more faces.
I held back judgment because the first episode had me wonder if they were going to tune them down more than I thought they would. To give you an example the way that Leo sees the characters act when walks in on them is the same way he sees them when Zapp brings him to the office in the first chapter. Not seeing it made think things got tuned down. Granted things still got pushed down for example Zapp being more off the wall in the first chapter then we see him. For example as he leads Leo to the base Zapp can be seeing laughing like a mad man with a crazy face which frightens Leo.
In short now that I am renewed that the comedy is their as much as the action is I can’t wait to see other episodes. If you want to see the two episodes look them up as they are out their subbed by fans. If you want to see a trailer before that then check this out.
