The other day we found out that Shenmue 3 will receive help from Sony as well as use Kickstarter. This didn’t sit well with people so today it was explained that Kickstarter is being to see the fans commitment.
“Sony and PlayStation is definitely a partner in this game. and it’s going to be run through third-party production. We’re going to help Ys Net get the game done, we’re going to be partners on it the whole way, and really excited to see this thing come out in a couple of years. We said ‘the only way this is gonna happen is if the fans speak up. We thought Kickstarter was the perfect place to do this. We set a goal of two million dollars, and if the fans come in and back it, then absolutely we’re going to make this a reality.”
Once again Kickstarter is being used as a brominator to see if the fans want it. From what I can see that is not the case. The first goal is to see if people want it but after that they ask for more money for more goals up to the point that this is not a survey but asking a backer to join. I say this as most of the extra stuff is asked of the people who will buy the game. That is not the only issue here as after E3 big video was done and everyone gave it some thought it seems odd. If Shenmue 3 does have Sony backing it then why dose it need Kickstarter. This seems so odd people might not think Sony is on board. All this makes one wonder about the use of Kickstarter. What about you guys do you find it odd that Shenmue 3 is using Kickstarter? Is Kickstater a good way to go about it or do you don’t care about it?
As always thank you for reading.
