With Guile and Alex out for DLC in Street Fighter V Combofiend Peter Rosas decided to have a sit down with Hadoken.com. The interview discusses the current state of Street Fighter V and what might happen. One example is the big story update in June maybe the start of something or just stand alone depending on how it goes. You can check out the rest here.
” Hadoken.net: Now that the launch of Street Fighter V is behind us, how do you guys feel about how it went?
Combofiend: We’re happy that the community has embraced Street Fighter V the way they have and we greatly appreciate the support since we launched. More people are playing now than when Ultra Street Fighter IV was out, both online and in tournaments, which is exactly what we hoped for. That’s not to say there weren’t areas during launch that we felt we could’ve improved on, but we’re continually working to enhance and improve the overall game experience and there is plenty more still to come.
Hadoken.net: While the game has gotten mostly stellar reviews, there are those who made it clear that they were not happy with the lack of single player content. What would you tell these fans?
Combofiend: Firstly, thank you for continually supporting the Street Fighter brand. Secondly I would say that we didn’t forget about you! In addition to the character stories and survival mode, which were available at launch, we added character trials and tutorials in March and will be adding the epic cinematic story mode in June. That said, the heart of Street Fighter is in battling with others. So although there is single player content available, don’t be afraid to hop online and experience more of what Street Fighter V has to offer!
Hadoken.net: As you mentioned, Street Fighter V will be getting the cinematic story mode in June. Now is this a one and done story, or can we expect like a yearly story expansion that would keep the game narrative evolving?
Combofiend: At this moment in time, it’s a grand, standalone story that will allow fans to see their favorite Street Fighter characters brought to life in an entirely new way. In terms of a story expansion beyond the offering in June, we’ll gauge reaction to the story once everyone has played it and go from there.
Hadoken.net: When can we expect the daily challenges, that will help players earn more fight money, to go live?
Combofiend: Daily Challenges are currently being re-tooled and optimized for the game, and are scheduled to release soon. The feature will now be called “Targets,” and they will still be daily goals for players to complete and generate Fight Money, which can be used to purchase in-game content like new characters, stages and costumes. We’ll have more information to share later this month.
Hadoken.net: Speaking of Stages, the US Air base stage was a very nice surprise, especially that we did not know that new stages will be available as DLC. Could we expect more classic Street Fighter II stages remade as SFV DLC ?
Combofiend: We’re really happy to see that the response towards the US Air Base stage was so positive. It definitely inspired the team to look at other stages and see if there’s an opportunity to bring additional ones over.
Hadoken.net: Both Alex and Guile were a great addition and were well optimized to fit the gameplay system of Street Fighter V. Can you give us any hint, in one word, as to who the 3rd DLC for May will be?
Combofiend: As we’ve announced previously, we still have Balrog, Urien, Ibuki, and Juri slated to release this year. As far as who’s next, you’ll just have to wait and see! Just know that the next character, and all of the characters we add to Street Fighter V, will be optimized to fit the gameplay systems.
Hadoken.net: That is fair. Last question: Any words on the zenny economy? It was first announced to go live in March
Combofiend: Our premium store will be launching soon, so stay tuned for new details.”
