Street Fighter V story mode was something fans were looking and many say as replacement for arcade mode. It meet them half way as it was a replacement for arcade mode but many found it to easy or not satisfying enough as a substitute for beloved mode of play.
Ono said it is because of Mortal Kombat 9. You see after seeing how story mode was in the game he thought Capcom should do the same. Something explained to IGN at E3.
“When [I] saw that, [I] thought Capcom should really take advantage of mimicking this and incorporate it into its games as well. So story mode has then become a big thing in Street Fighter also,” Ono said, additionally noting that he does seriously consider suggestions fans offer to him on his Facebook page.”
