We heard a while back that the JRPG age is coming back with Sony. Although for the article they used Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XV to prove that point. Not good start but there is one thing you can say about JRPG fans of PlayStation. We can wait and it seems the waiting might be over.
Once again we are hearing Sony thinking about bring back JRPGs of old. At a recent event Yoshida-san or Morita-san were asked if we will ever see an RPG made for Japanese audience. While the cost has made them think twice about the way veteran fans have been demanding and the praise there games receive does make Sony want consider bring back the favorites.
“We hear that Sony has received many requests from veteran fans – not limited to Arc the Lad and Wild Arms – for the resurrection of SIE Japan Studio’s titles focused on the Japanese audience, especially a few JRPG franchises. Yet, in Recent years, due to the soaring of development costs, investment has been mainly focused on titles which could be hits on a global scale.
That being said, recently Japanese studios’ games developed for Japanese gamers have received high praise overseas. This is leading Sony to begin considering whether it could be profitable for its Worldwide Studios to make that kind of game again.”
