Matsuzo Machida is one of the people who brought the Shadow Hearts series to life. As we hope to see the series return on current consoles by way of digital or even better a new installment today we see that hit a break wall. Machida says that as far as he knows there is no word on the series coming back.
While this puts the series on hold it also looks as though he is not working on a new installment but rather something else. We get this from another tweet where he says that he will make interest games not mentioned SH. This may be downer in some ways and for that I am sorry.
But a fan asked today if Xseed can remake the series or bring it back through HD. They are asking them as they were responsible for bringing the series the US as publisher with the third game from the new world. The company that owned them origanlly is gone so that is all we have. I just posted a piece which I hope explains it well for you.
From my understanding of the situation, Universal Entertainment Corporation, the owner of Nautilus (the developer of SH Hearts, closed down their gaming division in 2005. They are now into pachislots and beach resort business. UEC still are, supposedly, the current owners of the franchise though they could have sold the rights to another developer or publisher in private.
And there is always the possibility that there is backstage drama about who exactly owns what when it comes to the series. One group knows the characters, the other the music, and one person owns the story rights. No one wants to touch it due to the legal mess it supposes in untangling it in order to get other game published.
More likely is that the series didn’t sell well, and UEC and other publishers feel that sales of new installment will not generate enough sales to guarantee a sizable profit. 😦
Maybe someone within UEC or other publisher is willing to take a risk and be willing to have other SH game. However, with last SH released in 2005, I really doubt the series will be revived :(.
That is the base understand of what I a being told by other fans. For this reason we are asking them to hand development over to Sony. At least I did in my email to them. I know it is a long shoot but I do believe it can be brought back. Heck you still have people today playing it on emulators and remember it was big news when we hear Machida interview. So lets be hopeful we can get some where. Maybe not a new installment but maybe bring back the classic for new gamers to enjoy to show there is something there for invest in. They did a slot machine of shadow hearts covenant in 2008ish and then a pachi-slot in August 2015
so it is very likely that they still have the rights
They were always more into slots etc… than videogames
Sadly Shadow Hearts was maybe a victim of its time because there was not that social media or video platforms like youtube back then.
I do believe a ps2 classic may be the best way as it gives everyone the chance to play the games
so hopefully something will happen someday even if its unlikely
Unlikely can always change. A long shoot that this is granted it is still something. Look we have fans today who play this on YouTube and show videos from play through and boss fights. To raking up highest damage. We have something all be it small and with the fact that most people who play it find something interesting in it means we can still make Shadow Hearts something today.
