After reading a Crunchyroll.com article arguing that Noel is the main character and no Asta I began to think and I think this argument doesn’t just apply here. I would like to use this as an argument to apply it as just some of Shonen jump favorite series way of telling stories.
First lets clarify that we now Asta saves the day in Black Clover or at the least comes up close to the finish. But the article argues that Noel is the one that shows major story development and not him. You would have to agree as we see the two skills grow but we see Noel deal with family back story on top of her control in the face of the enemy.
But this character growth over power doesn’t just stop here. I would apply the same to Fairy Tail as Lucy growth was seen more than Natsu. Natsu was the one who defeated the badguys but Lucy grew more as a character. Naruto has the same issue in that many would say that Sasuke was more of the focus than Naruto was.
The reason for this is the way characters interact. We see other characters grow around the main as they help them with there specific problems. That on top of the fact that the main character story is sprinkled through out the series in small piece gives the others a sizeable lead you can say when it comes to development. One perfect example is Natsu we didn’t really learn too much about him until the end when we learned more about his family and his adopted father. Naruto was the same in the case we knew who is father was but no one really talked about it to him. The same was for his mother, In fact we learned more about them late in the first series.
Again this is just how the main characters in these types of the series are. But those are my thoughts on it. What are yours? Let me know.
