Bungou Stray Dogs newest episode gave us some time with Fyodor. This episode set a high tone and if you haven’t seen it I suggest you see it as there will be spoilers ahead. AGIAN SPOILERS AHEAD.
First it appears this episode was meant to show us how dangerous Fyodor is. And it does it excellently. Fyodor has been captured and brought to Ace so he can interrogate him on behalf of the port mafia. Fyodor is given a chose in to either serve Ace so he can take control of the port mafia or die. An offer he figures Fyodor will take as he will have no choice. Ace leaves him making sure he is watched.
This is where it gets interesting as when Ace comes back Fyodor has him in the room by themselves as he challenges Ace to a game of cards. A game he wins and uses that as well as the fact that nothing works to trick Ace into thinking he is under the control of his gift crime and punishment. A gift that is described as putting people into a dream. I know that is not the words they used but the description given sounds like the typical power of dreams where you mind is in one place from your body. Remember that time is meaningless in dreams and what you dream about depends on your mind. Thu time and space are irrelevant making it as thought you are somewhere else.This also becomes clear when Ace thinks the only way to get out is to kill yourself so that you would wake as you do in some cases form a nightmare.
It is by the end of this that Fyodor reveals all to the one person has been talking to which is one of Ace underlings who thoughts he was dead only to find he was still alive and that Ace was now dead. This is due to the fact that Ace was tricked into thinking it was a dream and took his own life. Fyodor then explains he broke the electronics to make Ace think he was in a dream using marked cards to prove he was controlling it. This shows not just intelligence at frightening levels as by himself Fyodor took out the whole ship and sunk it all to retrieve information on the port mafia that Ace kept. Information that was probably kept secret by Ace. Ace also probably has guards all over the ship which he said was prepare to take on gifted attack. Yet Fyodor did this as though it was nothing for him. To do this Fyodor had to know about the information, the room and the monitoring device. Remember that if it was a camera this wouldn’t have worked so well.
This puts him on par with Dazai as this is similar to the way he would come up with a plain and execute it. But I believe when looking at Fyodor and Dazia we might be seeing a Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty comparison in the fact they are similar but it is also clear one is more ruthless than the other. Now I say this as I admit we don’t know exactly how Fyodor took control of the ship or how he gained inside information about it. But it is clear he is going to be a tough enemy to handle. Especially since it seems that we still don’t know what his ability is. Remember what we learned about was a lie. So which means we still have to figure that out on top of what he has planed for Yokohama. We will find out what this new devil is up as the season continues.
