We have a new rumor that may confirm that the PlayStation 5 will be able to go further back than just PS4. To catch everyone up Sony has confirmed the PS5 is backwards compatible with the PS4 but didn’t confirm or deny it would go any further back than that. A new patient shows that Sony new system should be able to do so.
“Differences in performance of the hardware components of a new device and a legacy device can cause errors in synchronization on the new device, which may cause a legacy application to crash or produce incorrect output when running on a new device architecture.Such differences in performance can arise, e.g., from differences in hardware architecture between the new and legacy devices.
The performance of an application on a new device may be closely matched to the performance of that same application on the legacy device by tuning the operating parameters of the new device.Examples of operating parameters include, among other things, the clock frequencies of the new device, the number of available general purpose registers (GPRs), instruction launch rates, and the like. The application may be run repeatedly on the new system while tuning its operating parameters to adjust the application-specific performance characteristics.”
In other words if this is put into the PS5 the system should be able to handle the game from the previous system without the need for the old system hardware. This is only one of the example of patients Sony can use to make the PS5 not only bring the PS4 games with it but also games from generations further back. For those wanting to play PS1 to PS3 games on PS5 this is a good sign. But will Sony do that? We will see. Let me know you what you think.
