The King Of Fighters XV is in development and while we want to see how the graphics have changed from KOF XIV till now that is not the only thing us fans want to see. We want to see story mode and to see if we actual get one.
Now we have seen SNK use the term story mode before with KOF XIV and Samurai Shodown with both having story be a nothing more than arcade mode rebranded. KOF XIII had story mode but that was arcade mode with more cutscenes thrown into it. Neither one of these really satisfied fans.
Now with that in mind what type of story do we want. Do we want to play through an anime similar to how arc system works does thing Should it be separate as with prior games. I think fans would like both.
But before we got to that let me explain arcade mode getting story from beginning middle and end. With how KOF has ben we have well detailed prologue as to why the fighters are joining the tournament usually they are on the website for that game. But when you play it those details seem to not be there. For example you get a pretty lengthy bit as to why Vice and Mature are still teaming up with Iori in both XIII and XIV. In the ending though we get something quick and straight forward. Now to be clear that doesn’t mean the endings haven’t been forth coming as when you play through the multiple teams you get a sense as to the after math of Verse defeat and what it means with KOF XIV.
What I am imposing is similar to KOF MI we get a prologue for each team that is there own. Middle of the road we get a quick video for the story but I also think for this moment we should get a little insight into how the story applies to the team. If this was XIV for example Team Japan would have Kyo sensing Oriochi or something similar but realizing that it isn’t the same. For Team K there would be a sense of something annoying that remind of him 2001 when he fought Igniz. For the ending we see the after math of what those feelings where as we get the knowledge that Verse was an creature made up of these people.
But we also have a need for over all story as to what team does what and how far they get into the tournament. If they went with a true story mode for this we would have to go through it the same way as Mortal Kombat IX -XI has done it as well as Arc system works. Which would show who and who lost but most importantly who did what. This would put some of the story elements from arcade mode together to paint us a complete picture. At least that is how I see it happening. At least that is how I see it happening if we do get it one as we need to see if SNK would do both.
