Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest had Natsu have a heavenly moment. The thing is though it technically wasn’t. Now to explain this there will be spoilers so please if you don’t want to be spoiled stop now. AGIAN SPOILERS AHEAD.
Now to catch up Natsu is fighting the dragon ghost dragon slayer and lost. For that moment we have Natsu soul outside of his body at which he is having this moment where he is in heaven but he isn’t. We see this as those he cares for and those who care for him are there.
That last part is the only way to explain Zeref who in Natsu defense would make anyone think they went to hell consider he did bad things before he died. Although Natsu thinking that hell is heaven is odd and funny. I am saying that as that is the only way to explain why he thinks everything should be on fire.
Now this isn’t hell or heaven. It is something else and we can’t say Purgatory as Natsu isn’t dead. Because his soul is out of his body he is having moment where those who cared for him come to give him wisdom. I don’t know if they do this on TV anymore but in the US this was used for a comma moment or those moments where the character was in the hospital and no one knew if they would pull through. It is during this time that the show would use this moment for a number of things .
Most of the time these sequences were used for recaps of flash backs. Another use was to give the character in question a prep talk and that is what is happening here. Basically Zeref, Mavis and Igneel came to give Natsu some resolve to take on this new foe power. Something he needs as Natsu cannot touch which makes his power useless. Remember that Nastu has done many things with his flames with some defying what flames can do. But in order to inflict harm to this ghost dragon slayer Natsu needs to be able to do something that causes him some damage. Being a hands on wizard with fire and lightning as his weapon that does give him much to work with here.
Now this has happened in manga before where the character gets a talk from someone and they come back stronger. The same happens to Natsu as he realizes a way to inflict harm on this ghost thanks to his extended family I guess you can say. (Don’t ask me why Hiro has Zeref and Mavis with children? I think he doesn’t want them to be gone just yet.)
So to sum up it is probably best not to look at this as a moment in heaven or purgatory but a dream. A dream where the spirits who are close and care for Natsu came to give him the push he needs to win. With this projection magic allowing him to be able to hit the guy that is the ticket. Or at the very least put up a fight as we don’t see much more than Natsu give the guy a good punch. We will have to see if this is enough and this guy is only dangerous because he can take your soul or if there is more to him.
