Street Fighter V is getting an update that Ono has been hyping for awhile. Today we learn that the update is a mod that will be tested out in a small lobby that will blow the tournament out of the water as Ono puts it.
“I can’t really go into details [but] the main thrust will be this additional mode. At the moment we have group tournament – it’s about eight people that can be invited to a lobby. This new mode will blow that out of the water in terms of scale. We’re still working out details in the beta, but it’ll certainly be dozens, hundreds of people that can take part in a tournament at the same time. We’re fine-tuning that and that’ll be ready in the coming months.” Ono
You might have noticed coming months. While Ono didn’t go into detail as to what SFV players will be getting he want them to know new stuff will be coming in stages. Something we have seen through out this game life cycle. Basically you are giving yourselves the wrong idea that this will be one big update as SFIV Super and Ultra were.
“Not so much; it’s just the addition of this new feature. Maybe when I say big update, you’re imagining the old days of Super and Ultra. I think it’s a big addition to the game, but as you’ve seen, the strategy for the title has been gradually adding more features, more characters and it’s gradually gotten bigger over time.” Ono
Taking there time thing as they look at online. Something that has been an issue with SFV since launch has smoothed out but there are still small issues with it. This will also be why they lock things down not allowing balances patches or other updates to let it run its course to see what happens.
“”One slightly different approach for the Intel World Open – in the past when the Capcom tour was running, we’d have the freedom to add a character while people are practicing, or make a change or adjustment to the balancing. We want to create a level playing field, as it’s such a large audience – anyone can take part. As I’ve mentioned recently, there are some things coming in November and December. Once that’s out, we’re going to lock the game down for a while, so people aren’t being caught out by balance changes when the qualifiers open up around February / March time.” Ono
So something big is coming but it will be in stages as Capcom analyze the reactions. Sounds like a good thing. Hope it works out for fans have been asking for big additions to the game.
