Verum Rex premiered in Kingdom Hearts 3 as a game in the Toy Story world. When fans say they got hyped as they see it as another short at Final Fantasy XIII Versus. Now before you say this another fan boy trying to make something out of nothing keep in mind Nomura teasing Verum Rex himself.
Nomura didn’t just have this as a commercial in KH3 new world. He also teased at as having something to do with KH universe as another universe to explore. Something we learn as we see Rikku and Sora appear in it with the main protagonist as well as someone in black hood watching them. Many fans see this as a sign that this might be where Kingdom hearts go next. That is mainly so Nomura can get away from Disney and Final Fantasy Cameos.
This is as Nomura was just using them as stepping stones to build his own world for his game and while you can argue it has become that you can argue against it as well. I say this as with KH3 fans praised it but they were asking where were the Final Fantasy Cameos and with that being the case it could be seen that Disney and Final Fantasy have become not stepping stones but corner stones. Meaning that even though a game in the franchise might be great fans will recognize the fact that those elements are missing that have been there.
Which brings me to this. What if some fans are right and that Verum Rex will be its own game? This would give Nomura his own world as you can take the concepts from Versus which he planned to use but never got and put them into this as many fans though might be the case. If you confused a lot of what Versus XIII was in concept meaning the idea phase and not finalized. Thus why we got FFXV that seems similar but not the same feel.
As such we sill have fans who want this game in some way. We know this as mods show people are still trying to get the character to look how they did in the first trailer for the game when it was still Versus. This shows there is an audience that still wants that itch to scratch. Something that can deliver what Versus could have been.
But are we getting a new franchise from Nomura is the question? The teasing could be for KH4 as many are thinking. Besides what we have discussed already that is not to clear. The latest trailer ending teases that Sora will bump into Rex in the other world. The way the line plays out it sounds as though it is a one way trip but that could just be for added affect. Meaning that Sora does make it back to his world and this could be just him handing off the torch sort of speak. But that is just a thought. Let me know what you think.
