The people behind the original Skies Of Arcadia still wants to make a sequel. This is coming from Kenji Hiruta who worked on the game at Sega. He brings this up as he still gets fans working showing love for the game. Such work was posted on the article as you see here.
Kenji hopes the art work shows Sega that there is enough love for the game to show a sequel is profitable. Given how Shenmue III is a thing we can look forward to maybe seeing a sequel to this beloved classic.
