I say a post on KOF Reddit with one person talking about A King Of Fighter XII Unlimited Match. This how they broke down.
“XII is officially the Ash Saga’s Dream Match (Even though there is nothing “Dream” in the game).
Despite the fiasco the game went on, it can still receive a remake perhaps called KOF XII UM (Although I have no idea what UM would mean this time) with the entire cast of the Ash saga plus New Faces and Rugal.
Despite being numerically behind XIII, I don’t think it’s a problem to include characters introduced in the next game, since the main function of a Dream Match is to be the definitive game of that saga and this is reflected in the cast.
This is perhaps the only way to redeem XII, as SNK could remake the entire game to make it look good. Although ’98 UM is a relatively simple Upgrade compared to the original ’98, 2002 UM is practically a new game compared to the original 2002 and the same can be done with XII.
What do you think of the idea? Do you believe the game would still be in 2D like the original? Would you buy the game and think it could become competitive?

This may sounds like a cool idea but first let break down XII by first saying it was meant to be a demo for XIII.
So basically we would be asking for KOF XIII unlimited match not XII. But why are we asking about this for an old game. Many people love to see classics brought back but this wasn’t that long ago and if you want a complete XII you would just play XIII. To me the answer lies in the fact we knew there were more plans for the game.
Above are characters that were planned for KOF XII and XIII but never happened. For the DLC we got Ex kyo, Ex Iori Mr. Karate, Billy and Saiki. But SNK has said many times there were more DLC characters planned. What cut it odd where the spirits that were to costly to use. This is even though KOF XIII was one of SNK games to get onto EVO stage as well get many fans hooked onto the game and thus SNK in general. But the price is the issue with it being to expensive and thus it nearly took SNK out of the videogames scene. As such this will never happen due to that issue. But the love for the art style offered SNK lives on.
With this love for the we see it cross into other fight games as well as other character wish to see again such as Rugal. Even now as we wish for character for XV fans express this style even as we don’t know of the style XV will use. This is the best way the style can live on since it was to difficult for SNK to maintain and even though SNK is doing or back in the black it is still recovering.
But there is hope for those who want SNK to return to this style as a tease for Raiden has many thinking a 2d anime style using unreal engine is in the works. But others disagree. We will have to see.
