Techradar On What Backwards Compatibility Means For The Playstaion 5 Given Sony Past

TechRadar.com has posted an article talking about the PlayStation 5. The conversation is on one of the features I hope the rumors are true on and that is Backwards Compatibility. Basically a rumor says a new patient will allow the PS5 to play game from consoles past go further then the PS4. Now the Ps4 is the guaranteed one the PS5 can play as the same people who made are working on PS5 with rest being rumored as it is not being confirmed or denied. The article from TechRadar goes over that aspect of Sony consoles and sees if it works out for the company.

Discussing the pros and cons the article see the use of having the nice time of being able to play your game that you had for years without buying a new version for your new console. The issue here though is maintaining it. Sony history with doing so shows that maybe easier said than done. Also it would be more profitable to Sony in the eyes of the article not to do this and thus gamers will have to buy the new game and not just dust off that old version for another go. With those 2 things in mind the author sees this being similar to the PS3. By that I mean the PlayStation 3 was full compatible at first with previous consoles but with later models the function was dropped.

Now the thing here is that this comes to a few issues. 1 the way this was handled in the past was by transferring old tech to new consoles. Tech that would be the first to break down in some cases if not all. The rumor is hinging on a new piece of tech that will not be able to handle old games but allow the PS5 to play them with high end graphics as though have been HD remastered for the PS5 instead of playing an old game one the latest consoles. Now hoe that will work I am not sure as this is based on the rumor of it being a thing. The other is how the logic here works as to why it would be more profitable for Sony

Yes for some games you can buy the nest version on the new console or the old version. But that depends on the company. Those in the JRPG community are looking at this with big hopes so they can play games they cannot without busting out the console it was released on. And that is if it works. Thus the whole argument of by the new one doesn’t really hold up to well. Now the flip side of this I don’t how well this will hold out. The article points out that this died with the PS3 with the PS4 having you download it through steam or PS store. This wasn’t smooth either as not all games are there and service perfect but best option at the moment.

But this is all going on what we know about the console isn’t much. We still have a lot of question as Sony has a lot of things to tell us. With that in mind I myself am hoping for it to go back at least to the ps2 if not all the way. What about you though? What are your thoughts on the console backwards function let me know.
