As we have talked about Shadow Hearts remakes, prequels and sequels one cannot help but talk about what certain characters would be like if they were playable. One such character is none other than Albert Simon. Yes we will be looking at the main antagonist for Shadow Hearts 1 and talk about what it would be like to have him at your controls.
First we need to discuss who this would be possible. And with this we will be looking at Albert in Shadow hearts 1 as new game plus or the official Shadow Hearts 3. In the cannon Shadow Hearts 3 it would be possible maybe to have Albert as a guest character as this was a prequel to the events of the first game and thus the party wouldn’t have an idea what he is up to.
But the biggest issue here is play style. Albert is to me a rule break as if he is a fusion who can use magic then he breaks the rules. The rule I am referring to is in Shadow Hearts Covenant where we have normal magic you can use with out special skills have it stated that fusion can only use there souls magic and nothing else. Yes in Yuri case it is because he had forgotten how to use it but we also have this rule applied to Kurando and in the spin off Shania. So it is best to see it as a universal rule for that case of character it seems.
But there is one thing to look at with rules. When it comes to them we get people who break the rules as exceptions to show how special the person is. So if we say Albert is the one and only fusion who can fight by using magic without transforming into his fusions form. Plus as a special character it isn’t big of an issue since he won’t stay with the party too long.
But that is looking at him as a guest character. Something we can do in the would have been 3rd or 4th game. If we have him as a new game plus character than what. 1st we are talking about someone who has 2 sets of abilities in both cast and fusion. Maybe in the player role we get him to have fusion only with us getting certain spells the normal boss doesn’t. In turn the boss would get more health and damage to balance things out.
But if we are talking about Albert being a fusion then we need to talk about the souls he had or the ones you can use to be more fair. The souls we know of are Amon and the sub boss Messiah. Both of these are non elemental so if made playable we might get one and maybe 1 or 2 other souls as normal elements. Maybe a dark and light with them being different in they have support and attacks spells from other elements but are separated by there roles to Albert.
But what about the prequel. As a guest character we can have him with 1 soul. So it doesn’t matter about if it is op but I go for the messiah if that is the case. I am saying this as Albert having made his pact with Amon is story so him getting that would have him on his way to deal with Rasputin. At best we need to have Albert almost ready to enact that plan but doing so right now.
But if the prequel was focus on Yuri dad then it would be an interesting thing to have Albert there. Basically to watch Yuri dad until the end in Shangai. This would have him be our Crow from PS5 in a sense as we know he isn’t really with us and as such we know he will stab us in the back. Or watch given how Yuri dad died was really at the hands of Radiance. Something we learn as we travel with Yuri.
So if we get him in the prequel as character he should get one soul as guest. But if he says on give him a small amount maybe 1 other with messiah. It will have to be him as this will be before his pact with Amon. That is my thinking but of course I can be wrong and maybe they can have Albert off what he can do with Amon as compared to Yuri.
But if we get him in the remake I think he should get 3 souls as a new game plus character we get for fun. 1 light with all support and buff spells with 1 dark with all attack spells. He then should have Messiah as his ultimate soul. But those are my thoughts. Let me know yours below.
