The coronavirus has had great impact on the world as many try to tackle the outbreak. For the 2 big communities anime and videogames have had different reactions. For the anime side we have seen events just canceled with the latest being Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2020.
“We have decided to cancel all the programs at Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2020 (TAAF 2020) scheduled from March 13 to 16, 2020.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to many of you who were looking forward to the event, but we made this decision in order to stop the spread of the new coronavirus infection (COVID -19), giving top priority to health and safety. We are very sorry, but we appreciate your understanding.

For the competition category, we are currently considering alternatives to the judgments that were scheduled during the event period, and will announce the winners as soon as they are determined.
We apologize to those who have planned to attend the event, the winners, the honorees, the creators of the nominated works in the competition category, and the related parties. We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation.”
Now the videogames have canceled as well with a recent twist. Some conventions such as GDC 2020 are pushing the event back to the summer. So far it is only the gaming events we have seen do this as the anime events have been taking place in Asia have been canceled due to the government taking serious precautions to stop the outbreak from spreading.
We saw this in Japan with Anime Japan 2020 being cancel not only due to people canceling there appearance at the event but also because of Japanese government.
But you may notice I am using the phrase so far. The reason being is that these are anime events taking place in Asia. No word on how this will effect comic con or anime next. So we will have to see how this will go. So before canceling your tickets make sure to see if your event or the reason why you are going to that event has pulled out.
To give you an idea while many events are canceling some are going as planned such as SXSW or E3. Granted E3 is still months away during the summer time which by then many hope that this is contained. We also have Pax East which just wrapped up. So keep your hopes and follow basic hygiene and follow information regaurding this outbreak closely.
