Dragon Ball Super has introduced not just god ki which has brought us Super Saiyan god and Super Saiyan Blue but also Ultra Instinct. We saw it in the tournament of power and we see the transformations Goku goes through. We see how unstoppable it can be but we also see the issues as well when you think of it.
Ultra Instinct is a technique that allows you to fight on instinct. Meaning you don’t waste anything movement as well as energy. This is shown by both Goku and Jiren as in this state they both dodge attack seamlessly in some cases. This doesn’t count for when they face off with each other as they cannot dodge each other when using it.
Ultra Instinct also comes with a power boast as well as a transformation for Goku but not Jiren. One of the odd difference between the 2. But Goku came to use it during the tournament after being hit hard. Thus he had couldn’t activate it. In the recent arc Galactic Patrol Criminal we see Goku has at least managed to learn to activate Ultra Instinct but it is to its first level of sign.
This form offers Goku a much needed boast against Moro but it isn’t enough as Moro over power him and it is one of the first flaws. Moro was over power Goku when he was beginning to run out of stamina. Showing that the technique is still draining. Now this can be to the fact it is still new to Goku but this is only the first form so the fact it takes so much out of him might be a way to make sure he cannot use it all the time.
The other flaw is that this cannot be the only issue. Remember that this is a technique used by the gods and they along with the angles are supposed to keep balance. Well with that being the case it is odd that we see Both Merus and Whis helping Goku master this if it is that powerful. Remember Meru was stopped before he took on Goku for real as it would jeopardize the balance of the universe for him to go all out. Meaning Ultra Instinct cannot be as powerful as they say.
If it was as powerful and unstoppable was it is claimed Whis wouldn’t have been in trouble to teaching it to Goku. Meaning his father would most likely had interfered and punished him. The fact that he didn’t when he himself saw this during the tournament means we still have many layers of this to see and with them we will see the flaws in it. And I think it is a good thing we see them as you can only imagine how short things will be if Ultra Instinct was perfect and as powers as it is said to be. Goku will be board and so would we.
