Tower Of God Ep 13 Tower Of God is out and we will be breaking it down. Since this is a breakdown there will be spoilers. If you do not want to be spoiled please stop now and go see the episode over at crunchroll.com now. AGAIN SPOILERS AHEAD.
This is episode is half recap/explanation and half preparing transition. The first half explains things from Rachel point view as we learned what happened when she got into the tower and how she proceeded to get through the 1st and 2nd test. The thing is she wasn’t meant to be here.
Headon tells Rachel the tower was calling for Bam and not her. This is heart breaking and makes her beg for it. Remember Rachel wants nothing but to climb the tower to see the stars. Headon then gives her the same test Bam had and she doesn’t see how she can win. He then does something interesting in hiding her so she can watch Bam take the test and pass.
Now Headon tries to show her that she is too weak to go through the tower only to be met with more begging from Rachel. Remember that in the firs test Bam got the Black March from Yuri and then took down the creature. He didn’t exactly do it on his own with his bare hands. But what shows that Rachel isn’t strong enough is oddly what was shown to seperate contest in the 2nd episode when they use the Shensu water. Headon used a small amount to hide Rachel and her body was exhausted from being in it. Not only that but Headon explains what that Rachel is actually not charming and vile on the inside. To prove this he says she doesn’t want to see stars but become one. Basically she wants to be special.
Yet despite this She wants to keep going saying she will do anything. Headon then gives her the ultimate test and that is to kill Bam thus leading to the perfect moment we see her carry out at the end of the last episode.
Rachel except this and then to make sure she does so Headon gives her a body guard in Arkyung. This might explain somethings about him as once she was now with Bam again on the path he was no longer needed and vanished. It is hard to say since the only one who touched on it was Rak for the quick moment while they were eating.
But with that said Rachel was still hesitant. Even though she planned on it killing him she still protected him. To make things easier for we see her tell Khun to lie to him. This is one of many steps we see Rachel try to take to keep her distance from Bam. Not only that but as the story kept going we see her become comfortable with it. Even after she is stabbed it only gives more time to get comfortable with the idea of killing Bam.
Now there is one part that some might have missed and that we had another strategy at work here. Basically we have Ryun and Yu Han Sung hatching there own plan. A plan that started with Ryan being put into the mix to attack Bam to test him. A test he passed it seems and from there we see it was her who left the letter for Ho that made him think taking Rachel hostage would work.
Another point of this is that we also see that Ryun told Rachel the same thing and that she needs to go with it. The reason for this was so they can set things up to get Bam alone to get him to do what they want and help with there rebellion. Something we have been given hints to. Remember it was pointed out that Ryun is a navigator and with her dropping out it makes you wonder why she even bothered coming. Not only that but she also told Khun about Ho making sure all parts of the plan were set in motion.
What this means is not everything was planned out by Khun as we were lead to believe. Something that while the rest of the group mourns in Bam being presumed dead Lero knows something is up and talks to Yu Han Sung about it. He knows something is up as the test director seems to be a step planning on the out come and not just watching them play out.
Something that Lero can’t stand and he too decides to join in climbing the tower. Oddly enough he says Quant doesn’t have a job. It isn’t shown but this is due to Yu Han Sung firing him. Basically it said that he had something to do with what happened in the manga but everyone knows that isn’t the case.
The group mourning Bam sees that they owe him and decide to protect Rachel. Rachel right now is a little nutty as she is relieved that Bam is dead and now she can climb the tower. But as many expected Khun is convinced she killed Bam and will protect her with the others. How long is unknown as we have to see that for ourselves.
And now we see what happened to Bam. Bam is in a protective shield as it seems Ryun and Yu Hung Sang expected Rachel to push him out. He wakes up to see he is live with Ryun next to him and a little bit of a coma as he didn’t remember what happened.
I say coma as this sometime happens with people who get knocked out as they have trouble recalling things. But when it starts coming back Bam is shocked as he tries to understand why Rachel would push him? Ryun answer to this is simple climb the tower to find out what drove her Rachel to do this.
Bam answer he doesn’t care about getting to the top of the tower. All he cares about is getting answers and for that he will climb. Not the answer Ryun was seeking but she will take it and that is where we leave for a reason. Ryun conversation with Bam explains why as we are about to have a time skip. Something she tries to explain to to Bam when he sees everyone again they might not be the same and that I think is for Bam as well us.
Now keep in mind it seems that Ryun and Sung wanted to use these 2 as well as Headon. But how far will they use this relation ship for themselves is hard to say. Also it isn’t clear if Headon is working with Sung for the same goal or just amusement. But what is clear is that fans have fallen for the tower of god and we can’t wait to see what else will come when season 2 drops.
The shot we see when the episode ends is Bam looking into the distance in part 2. Understand this is not the same Bam we have come to know.
