With the cancelation of Evo Online the Esports community is once again dealt a hard blow but they are not the only ones. Fans of fighting games in general were looking forward to the event and one of the groups most interested was KOF fans hoping to see a trailer for The King Of Fighters XV.
The fans were looking at EVO Online to be the place where they show of the trailer fans have been waiting for. But with it canceled we are left once again left with the argument for and against just showing off the trailer now. An argument the fans had at the beginning of the year as we wondered where they would show of the trailer given the state of the world. a question we must ask again.
If you haven’t heard of the argument it cut down as follows. On one side you say that SNK should find the right event to show off the trailer as they normally do. A fighting game event such as there world championship or Evo Online being the prime candidates for their choice of venue.
However the other side of that coin has us just saying show us the game now. While this a little bit of impatience that just comes from being a fan and wanting everything immediately. On the other hand this argument is becoming more of a valid point since every time SNK lines up an event to show off the trailer it gets cancelled. Granted we have only had 2 events but for fans it is 1 too many.
Also SNK has had events for there games before such as Samurai Shodown when they went over the 3 new characters for season 1. Given that we are talking about The King Of Fighters XV you can say it deserves it as we are talking about one of there biggest games and it deserves such. Also an event now can just be a streamed panel with the developers going over the characters. (That is what people are doing today anyway for there online given current events.)
The argument then comes with the fighting game fans to make sure they know and see the trailer. After all it is why they want for these events to have there crowds turn into the crowd for there trailer. To be honest though this part of the argument doesn’t have a leg to stand on.
If you don’t understand the metaphor to me SNK is well known enough that it can put the word out and the fans will mark down the date and gaming news websites will spread the word. In a quick second.
I mean it is how we hope word mouth spreads for everything else why not that. But it is up to SNK to decide now where to show off the game. Hopefully we see this month. We may not get the game due to the impact the virus had the on production but I hope we see this trailer soon as we know they have something to show us. A good bit given the time they had to go over it. The fan wants it some time this month too as I don’t think we have another big fighting event on par or bigger then Evo to show it so you might as well show it now. But those are my thoughts let me know yours as we await to see more on KOF XV.
