Mortal Kombat XI is about who controls the time line. That is made even more clear with aftermath. Well according to Boon it is about something else as well. It is about something else as well. It is about Liu Kang story coming to and end.
“I guess you can summarize the story that we’ve told as Liu Kang’s journey, in a sense. In my head, that’s done. We’re not going to be expanding with like ‘oh, and then this happened and we reset again.’ We really feel like that’s the end of that timeline.
Liu Kang has always has always been known as the “chosen one” and the “Mortal Kombat champion” of Earthrealm. In the original timeline, Liu Kang was the one who defeated Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, and Outworld’s attempted conquest of Earthrealm.
Should the story continue with Liu Kang as the new protector of Earthrealm, events will have to unfold very differently. At the conclusion of the story, “Lord Liu Kang, God of Thunder and Fire” was seen choosing Kung Lao to be his champion.
However, Liu Kang noted that this Kung Lao was different from the one he knew. Specifically, Liu Kang described him as being “humble.” Boon
Does this mean that with Liu Kang no longer being the hero that they will focus on someone else. We will see as we await to see what will happen with MK.
