We have a new rumor for The King Of Fighters XV. The new rumor talks about SNK having a demo with a few people to test out the game which is how we got this information. The information confirms Ash, Nameless and Yashiro are are in the game as they were playable along with Kyo, Kim, Diamon, Iori, Shun and Nelson. These 9 where chosen to test out charge motion and physicals as well as complex combos.
The game play is a mix of XIV and 2002 UM we are hearing but it reminded the author of KOF XIII as you can do ex moves as well as canceling in and out of Max Mode. Max Mode just makes things coast less. As far as how that relates to UM it is now clear at the moment. The only thing I can think off is being able to cancel into max mode off of moves as many have been wishing for in XIV.
There were 3 stages and someone noted Ash, Yashiro and Shun. This makes sense as Yashiro has worn the same thing since 97 Ash getting a change is okay and Shun biggest complaint from players is that he looked like he was from Persona not KOF. No word on graphics but according to this rumor there are 60 characters not 40. The rest is some new moves but you can check that out below.
Again this is a rumor so take it with a grain of salt as usual. But it might be true.
Basically, what happened it’s that a certain member of SNK’s staff (won’t say who) invited a few SNK influencers to test out a demo build of KOF XV’s early beta at their headquarters in Osaka, to get some feedback on what can be improved before officially announcing the game. Among those influencers there were profesional players and some well-known FG content creators. One of the influencers (who is a close friend) passed me some information about what the build featured, as well as some info the devs shared with them that wasn’t on the build. That person requested to remain anonymous, and we can’t provide pictures because these were not allowed to be taken.
-
The early build had 9 characters already programmed: Kyo, Iori, Nameless, Nelson, Yashiro, Shun’ei, Ash, Daimon and Kim. The devs said these characters were prioritized on programming to test stuff like charge motions, physics and complex combos/rekkas.
-
The character select screen had 60 character spaces. The 9 programmed characters were placed together (probably for convenience), and the rest of the spaces were completely blank, without silhouettes.
-
There were only 3 stages available: A training mode stage, a stadium stage that takes place on a boxing ring, and a street stage at night, with lights and stationary cars surrounding the arena.
-
Music on the build was recycled from previous games. Devs said it was because they haven’t finished the soundtrack yet and they are using the reused tracks as placeholders.
-
Gameplay is now sort of a mix between XIV’s and 2002UM’s. EX moves can now be used outside of Max Mode at the cost of half of a meter stock, and cancels are back, either by spending a full meter stock outside of Max Mode, or a fraction of the Max meter during Max Mode. Combos also feel a bit more like XIII’s in the sense that juggle-based combo possibilities are more common now.
-
Yashiro’s moveset has been tweaked to feature moves both from his normal form and his Orochi form, but not all of them are back though (like his running grab).
-
Some characters have either new moves or returning moves. Kim got his Ryuusei Raku back (the move where he does a slide kick and then an air stomp kick. EX version does a ground bounce on the opponent) and Shun’ei has a new “dive punch wave-ish” move like Kensou’s.
-
Ash, Shun’ei and Yashiro have a new outfit. All other characters have their XIV outfits. Apparently Shun’ei’s outfit was changed because the previous one wasn’t well recieved with fans and they wanted Shun’ei to look more appealing as a protagonist. The person knows this because the devs asked the guests about their thoughts on the new costume, even sharing some concept art of it.
-
The devs were asked about what characters would be in the roster. They didn’t want to answer completely, only saying that some old characters would return, and that the 9 characters on the build could be a hint of what some of the teams could be.
