Ono is leaving Capcom as of this summer after 30 years. The man who has become the face for the Capcom fighting game division will be missed in some areas but his departure will be a welcome change as well. We will go over these points today.

First positive for what Ono has done. Ono basically brought SF back in SFVI which fans enjoyed as we got reacquainted with the world warriors. He also elevated the fighting game tournament scene. While tournaments were still a thing Ono help bring them to a new level and many fighting game companies both in Japan and in other countries followed suit. Things we thank him for which leaves us to why some might be happy he is leaving.

While Ono help bring SFIV to us the other decisions he has made with the fighting game division were frustrating to say the least. From Street Fighter X Tekken where you had to pay for content which was on the disc already and both Street Fighter V and Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite rush development. SFV in particular as it was rushed out so it can be shown at Esports which it was far from ready for home release considering it only had survivor and online. The way they planned to fix it was through story mode but that didn’t answer the off line demand which casuals and fans alike where asking for.
Now to be clear things are better now with season 3-4 but in the early days it was rough. It is difference that fans are also noticing as Ono is leaving the company now but many may remember that as producer of SFV he was removed and given a different position. As such some article are saying he didn’t resign but quit instead. They don’t mention anything new but just go under a different title such as Polygon which you can see here.

But the prior reasons along with the supposed rumor that SFVI demo test didn’t turn out well. It is because of this turn of events we are getting a 5th season of SFV as many saw Seth addition to the game to be a signal for the end of the game especially with Capcom saying there wouldn’t be play offs for Capcom cup. Something they have been doing but only stop for when announcing a new game such as SFIV to SFV.
Now this is a rumor but it lines up with everything that is happened and if it is true might be the reason Ono is really leaving and given how people responded to the SFV summer update they are liking the direction the fighting game division is going. With Ono and was surprises and an issue with keeping there promises. But with the new direction fans are getting more direct reaction and response as we get for Monster Hunter World. Something that maybe all games in general should do as fans just want to know what is happening.

Ono started the revival of the fighting game division but had trouble getting things done and met issues. And for that again we thank you Ono. Now as your position is taking over by the next generation I hope they carry one with your energy and we hope meet lest issues.
What this means for the fighting game division is hard to say at the moment. The summer update though gives us an idea as to where this is going. And it maybe one fans like. But those are my thoughts let me know yours as we see where this changing of the guard goes.
