There is no one who doesn’t believe Street Fighter VI is in the works. But if that is the case we should talk about what we want the game to be and what we might get. In this case I would like to talk about the boss.
A boss is the last challenger to test your skills in arcade mode which is what most fighting game were. Now we see them as standing between us and endings for the character we have chosen to play. These challenges are tradition and not having them felt weird. Which is why many were happy that SFV got an arcade mode in season 3. But as we look to SFVI we should ask who will fill this big role?
This brings us to the obvious choice in Gill. SFV was setting things to go back to SFIII as we got Urien and Kolin working on a prophecy of someone with Gill power defeating Bison. Ryu ended up defeating Bison this time and it appears if we are following the stories that Capcom is ready to give the secret society Gill and the other belong too there time to shine.
If that is the case then just as Bison was the boss because Shadowloo was at the center of things so too should Gill be the boss here. Given what SFV has done for both Bison and Gill you can only imagine what it will be like to be paly as the divine Gill in the next game hoping it will be just as good if not better.
But if it Gill is the boss I should point out it doesn’t mean it is the someone you will have at your finger tips Often players want some difference between boss and normal characters bring us to a boss form. This form can be seen in SFV where Gill not only has resurrection but he has access to everything making a serious threat. Some may hope we get the same in SFVI.
But that is just boss mode. What if we get something else in terms of Gill. With Capcom they have no problem coming up with new versions of characters from Evil Ryu to Shin Bison or even Oni. Gill for SFVI might something else in boss form gaining a new power or even deciding to give it his all show us a new form that unleashes his true power.
Of course Capcom might through us a twist. Giving us a boss that is new but not unheard off. I am referring to a version of Gill and Alex that appeared in Udon comics where Gill possessed Alex. It is not clear what this will do since the characters moves are that far off. Online difference is Alex might be seen as Gill without his elemental power.
But we don’t know if that will be true if this happens. Remember Alex is a third person who can undergo the same experiments Urien and Gill did successfully. Something that we don’t know might grant him different abilities when Gill possess him in the game. It is something interesting to look forward to.
Of could it be the combination of Urien getting all of Gill powers. At this time Urien is not even on the same plan as Gill according to story and yet he commands lightning and earth. If he was to be able to handle the modifications there is no telling what Urien might do. It might even be something fans like.
And then there is the last possibility. A brand new bosses in a new character we have never seen or heard of before. Something which happened with SFIV but not to many liked Seth. So if that is the case I hope it is someone we like and enjoying challenging as playing as if they are playable.
But those are my thoughts. Let me know yours as we await to see what Capcom will show when this game is announced.
