Balancing In Super Smash Ultimate Done During Lunch But Not Now

Ever wonder how Super Smash Bros. Ultimate balance update happen. Basically decision are made during the development team lunch break that use to play against each other. The thing is that cannot happen at the moment due to the COVID restrictions along with the game not being very good at online. Something they are still trying to figure out on how to get around.

“What’s been especially difficult during development is that I myself haven’t been able to playtest with other people very often. When developing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I normally battle with staff every day at lunch time and use those sessions to make adjustments to balance. This isn’t possible at the moment.

We recently got to the point where [Minecraft Steve] can be used in non-public online battles, meaning I’ve been able to playtest the fighter more. However, it’s still not enough. With remote development being challenging as it is, there may be some significant differences between the version in this presentation and the final product.” Sakurai

Hopefully they figure out how to get around this.
