Jujutsu Kaisen Ep 9 Small Fry and Reverse Retribution is out now and we will be breaking it down. Since this is a breakdown there will be spoilers. If you do not want to be spoiled then stop now and go check out this episode as well as past ones over at Crunchryoll.com. AGAIN SPOILERS AHEAD.

We start of with meeting up with Jumpei Yoshino as he is the target of bullies and is bothered by all even when he goes to the movies people get on his nerves. So you imagine he is all to happy with Mahito appears and make those who are running the movie die from twisting there forms. Mahito nows he is not human but is unclear how a normal person can see Mahito since he is a curse. But we don’t learn how that works and that only he wants to learn from Mahito how he can do it for payback. Everyone wants to get thee bully back.

We then go to Yuji and new to the anime Kento who will be Yuji supervisor for this case. Now notice that the cops do have Yuji and Kento on camera and they do have questions but a senior officer says forget if you want to make to retirement more less. Meaning police turn a blind eye towards the jujutsu community. But as we watch Kento and Yuji move through out the theater they are not connecting well.

Yuji seem to be on the same wave length with Gojo but Kento is a different guy all together. No surprise since he used to be a salary man/ office guy before becoming a jujutsu sorcerer. The reason being he found the people he was working for useless. The thing is he thinks the same for sorcerers as such is his comedy. He is serious but makes no sense.

But this brings us to the case at hand as Yuji and Kento run into curses where we get to see what they can do. Kento curse power allows him to create weaknesses which he brags about and while most of the time it is bad as the enemy can use your own strength against you in this case that does not happen since the curse are not that bright. But the main thins is Yuji.

Yuji training with Gojo was so he can gather and use cursed energy in combat. This was to lead to his own signature move similar to Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho spirit gun or Naruto rasengun. What we have for Yuji is reverse retribution. Since his energy is slow to gather it has a 2nd impact affect. Thinks of it as a bomb or bullet with a delay detention. You hit them with some energy but the serious punch is coming afterwards.

This cool and the effect reminds me of Heih darkness flame or Ichigo tensho. The issue is that Yuji and Kento have not been fighting curses but human corpses that have been mutated. They are corpses as they were dead when they were fighting them. This relieves some of Yuji consciousness but it still angers him that someone did that.

Kento is taking in by this as he is surprised that Yuji still lets get to them. Keep in mind this type of stuff is something a jujutsu sorcerer might run into and therefore in order to deal with it they numb themselves to it. At the same time we learn why Gojo has Yuji tag along with Kento for a bit as he fights similar to him. They are both in close in the moment using cursed weapons. Why did Gojo do this is to allow Yuji to see how someone similar to him fights. By the end of the series he might fight at the same level as Gojo but not now so it is best he learns how one fights that similar to him.

Now this brings us back to Mahito and Jumpei as Mahito explains curses. How they come into being and the different types. For example Mahito is a human curse what does that mean overall is unknown. But we turn to Jumpei as now he is Yuji target as he is meant to follow him to see what he knows.

This is all a plow as we see with Kento talking to Kiyotaka that Kento knows where the curse is but doesn’t want to bring Yuji with him as he is just a kid and should be dragged into this. To a degree this sounds lame as he is the main and maybe your most powerful weapon thanks to Sukuna so why not bring him. At the same time we are seeing the difference between Kento and some of the other people in jujutsu such as mai as Kento still sees Yuji as kid and thus he should be allowed to live so he will take the more dangerous road by himself. Again it is consideration for Yuji rather than he is vessel and needs to be killed.

More dangerous as it puts Kento again Mahito and what ever other curses are with him as we did see someone else is there. But how that will go is something we will have to see next time.
