Super Smash Bros Ultimate Sephiroth Trailer Was Made Before Remake

Super Smash Bros Ultimate now has Sephiroth. Many believe it is due to the fact of the Final Fantasy VII Remake but according to Sakurai the trailer for the dlc character was made before the game was released. According to the developer Sephiroth was meant to pay respect to Advent Children.

“Sephiroth’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate trailer offered video game fans a real spectacle as we learned the identity of the character behind Challenger Pack 8. Those familiar with Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children probably noticed some memorable scenes from the movie as the reveal happened.

According to Masahiro Sakurai in the latest Famitsu Column, the script for Sephiroth’s reveal was set to pay homage to Advent Children. Apparently, plans for this were created before the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. In other words, there aren’t any intentional references to events that occurred in Final Fantasy 7 Remake in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate trailer.”
