Jujutsu Kaisen Ep 17 Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event – Group Battle 3 is out and we will be breaking down. Since this is a breakdown there will be spoilers. If you do not want to be spoiled please stop now and go check out the episode over at Crunchyroll.com where you can see this episode as well as the other previous episodes. AGAIN SPOILERS AHEAD.
Here we are ladies and gentlemen as we have an all girls episode and we start with Miwa versus Maki. A fight that is one sided as anything as Miwa thanks to Mai believes Maki is weak but she has been mislead as Maki has insane physical skills that leaves Miwa with really no way to deal with her.
Even with her cursed ability Maki just figures it out and gets through it. I mean this fight ends with Maki taking Miwa sword and the poor girl having now way of getting it back. The poor girl tried to beg.
We then see the teachers are seeing this and acknowledge Maki skills but the old guard with with the Kyoto principle representing them here. We also learn that the surveillance for the fight is being messed with as there is footage of Yuji. Something Gojo plays off as lets be honest he probably knew this is what they were trying to do.
We then go straight to the fight with Momo and Nobara who are in a fight of keep away as Nobara is trying to catch Momo with Momo keeping to her broom in the air only to stop once and awhile to tag nobara. The result is that Nobara is having a hard time deal with her. As with the previous fight the animation has everyone talking but we soon see there is more substance as Momo explains Mai to Nobara.
Mai childhood isn’t normal despite being born into one of the 3 houses of Jujutsu. Even there she was seen as a servant as an object. While that might give some people perspective and maybe reconsidering there thoughts about the person we see Nobara doesn’t. The reason is to here that doesn’t excuse how Mai acts. As such we see Momo on the side of Mai and Nobara on the side of Maki.
We then see Nobara get her hands on a piece of Momo broom and bring it down to where she goes to work only to be stopped by Mai. Mai explains it was a plastic bullet and tells Momo it was okay for telling a bit of her story. This moves from girls fighting for the sisters to the Zeni sister fighting themselves.
The fight to be honest is the same as with Miwa as we see Maki handle Mai with ease as she get in for the knock out the blow. As she does we get some back story. Basically yes Maki is strong but that is due to her version of the heavenly pact which we were introduced last episode in Panda fight. Only for little or low curse energy she has insane strength and abilities. Something that is emphasized when Maki grabs Mai bullet.
That is the moment everyone is talking about but in her defeat we see why Mai hates Maki and i am seeing people taking this a little differently. Some are saying it is due to Maki making Mai life harder but what I see is that Maki left her. If you go back she ask Maki why didn’t you stay with me something Maki said she would do when they were little. Maki response is if she stayed on the bottom she would hate herself. A scene that reminded me or Bleach when Yoruichi fought Soifon and Soifon was more made at being left behind then anything else. But those are my thoughts let me know.
