As a Shadow Hearts fan I know the series would thrive it was in release in today market. And as look at twitter and streamers I see more proof of this. Lately though there is one show that makes I feel proves the point. This show is Jujutsu Kaisen. You might see that as a stretch but trust I think it is a good example that Shadow Hearts can work.
Now lets begin with the what Jujutsu Kaisen is. It is a action anime with horror themes as well as traditional comedy you would expect from anime. Shadow Hearts has the same themes being action JRPG with horror elements as well as odd ball comedy.
Now lets look at mains. Jujutsu Kaisen main is Yuji a kid who act first and thinks later who has a sinister spirit inside of him that he can switch places with with the added the bonus of Sukuna being inside of him he can now use curse energy. Yuri is man who can use the soul of monsters to transform into them. At the same time if he isn’t careful he will lose his soul as the entity fox face constantly after him. Yuri is an odd ball with more flaws and humor that make him beloved by fans.
The cast you can’t really compare head to head but they all of have one thing in common if you look at them overall. For all the power they have both cast have comical flaws that make them characters you enjoy seeing in action as well as following. For instance Megumi has a ton of potential and everyone wants to take him on but the people he deals with puts him in odd moments that gives the audience a laugh. Keith is the same way. He actually normal for being a vampire with all of the tropes that come with it. With said you have him with Yuri and company and comedy ensues. Keep in mind his family is no better. the 2 are powerful and straight forward characters. But the company they keep makes you comically ask why.
Now with all of that said Jujutsu Kaisen is running wild with a successful manga series that has now spawned an anime adaption which fans cannot stop talking about. If this Jujutsu can make it with the points I mentioned above so to can Shadow hearts. And I am saying this honestly. Hopefully one day we see just that. But let me know your thoughts as we hope this series one fay returns.
