D Gray Man ch 246 is out and I would like to talk about it. This will be a reaction with spoilers. If you do not want to be spoiled then stop now and go check out the chapter over t Viz Media or Shonen Jump. AGAIN SPOILERS AHEAD.
So for anyone catching up we had Apocryphos put his plan into action with Earl becoming active only for cross to interfere as the Akuma came for Mana. This is the morning after and Allen sees the police are here for him as he sports Mana only to see something is off.
He is calling him Allen. Keep in mind Allen was the dog Mana traveled with. Allen we know at this time was called Red for his arm. We seem to see that Apocryphos used his power to mess with Mana memories. The way he is messing is Allen is all he knows. But we see that it isn’t a perfect picture. I saw that as yes he is calling Red the dog name but even he points out that his tail is gone. Meaning he sounds confused as to who he is.
Red is taking this in and is trying to get through to him that he is not Allen. But after awhile we see that he gives and will teach Mana what he cannot remember. This is due to Red remembering what Mana said about being happy. So now instead of looking for his brother he is just traveling with his Red he is now happy to take the name Allen to keep mana happy.
This chapter shows us how Allen got his name but it also shows something else. It points to the fact that he did this wasn’t due to trama of losing Mana. That is not why the wild boy we see during this arc changed. He changed due to being more like Mana to show him this is how he was. So he is being an example on purpose.
But that isn’t the only thing this chapter showed. It points to Allen being the hot for the heart. Something doesn’t make sense as Allen according to Cross is to young for the role. This may seem contradictory on the surface but it isn’t as him being the host to Nea doesn’t as well. The only thing I can think of is there will be a Ichigo moment where we get an explanation as to why these conflicting sides exist in this person down the road. We will have to see.
