James Gunn has come out and said all Justice League member are to be recasted. This is according to variety magazine that says a new report from Warner Bros confirms this. This isn’t some surprise as after Cavil was no longer Superman many felt the other would be recasted,
Though actors such as Gal Gadot and Jason Mamoa confused this with Gado appearing as Wonder Woman for Shazam 2 and Mamoa still in the role after Aqua Man. Even Ezra blurred lines still being Flash. Gadot also mad things confusing as she and the director of past Wonder Woman movies said she still had the role.
That said the report also points to recasting is happening but they are not being kicked out entirely. Momoa for his part seems to be in talks for Lobo who is set to appear in Legacy. This makes sense as the persona he gave Aquaman was a bit more Lobo.
While this seem concrete it touches on something else that was said by Gunn himself. He posted a tweet about trying to figure out who plays who earlier this year and said nothing is cannon until Commandos and Legacy. Aka The firs steps into DC Studios new DCEU.
“Nothing is canon until [DC Studios animated series] Creature Commandos next year — a sort of aperitif to the DCU — & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think its okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.
And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories & some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows & animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until [Creature Commandos] and Legacy.”Gunn
So while this report prove some fan thoughts on the subject keep in mind. Nothing is written in stone yet. I bring this up as it feels like this brings us back to the original thought when Gunn was put encahrge the story. If it was that straight forward to me we should of heard of it earlier. Will see.
