My Thoughts on Kaiju No 8 Ep 12

Kaiju no 8 ep 12 is out and I would like to talk about it. This reaction will have spoilers. If you do not want to be spoiled then stop now and go check out the episode over at Crunchyroll.com to see what happened then come back. AGAIN SPOILERS AHEAD.

Kafka is human. He believes it but the thing is he has to show it. The episode continues where we left off last time. unit 3 giving Kafka all the moral support they can as the director general Isao pushes him to the limit.

The only thing that has changed now is that Isao is fighting Kafka with no strings restraint. This is fitting given how the show has been so far. Kafka has had a real test being in the defense force as a human. His knowledge and capability as a Kaiju has come in clutch when his team mates need him. What evet the battle called for the Kaiju side answered for Kafka. But in order to prove he is human he has to get this side out of control when he has been force to lose it. The greatest tool he has now has to be proven it is his.

A test which everyone is catching on too. Last time I said this was high risk high reward as Isao is being ruthless here but if Kafka can prove it too him then he has made his case. It seems Isao is letting him do that by proving he can control himself. It explains why he hasn’t out right killed him.

The thing is Kafka Kaiju form is more than Isao or anyone thought was capable of. From twisting his body to creating double gangers we are see this side of Kafka not only go wild but do so in tactical ways. The whole time Kafka trying to fight for control. It is beautiful how the motorvation thus far Mina is what snaps him out of allowing him to bring a stop to the battle by having take out his own heart. Aka he damaged his core. It is beautiful as proving he is human the very person who is driving to stand next to again as an equal he punched out damaged the one thing unit 3 says he has shown the most. His heart.

The meetings then followed with as the higher ups tried to decide Kafka fate. It seemed odd at first as we got Mina giving us a playback at what Kafka did versus those who don’t see any use out of him. it seemed pointless till I realized that it was to show Isao thinking and to him while they can make Kafka into a weapon they might get more use out of him this way.

This came in 2 folds as we learn the Kaiju who took out Kikoru mom and a lot of others. Kaiju No. 6. They lost a lot of people and thus with more Danibu type Kaiju popping up they might need one of there own. But another note on that is that they can get more out of Kafka alive then a weapon. His fighting capability was more than Isao thought was possible and it looks like he is the top fighter. Given that and how he is the only who can use kaiju no 2 based weapons he might be the only who could use them. With Kafka still breathing they would have 2 with Isao and Kafka on there side. As such Isao is the only seeing that way while everyone else sees on the board here sees it better to get ride of him.

For Kafka and unit 3 it is a win. Though Kafka will have more eyes on him that do want to kill him. But to him that doesn’t change anything. The man joined the force at the bottom knowing he will have to prove his worth. Something he will just have to do in order to prove he is reliable. It is as Hoshina says he will have to work so they know they can rely on him.

The episode was a great way to end the season. Kafka humanity coming through to save him by him taking down the monster who has come through for him in the team tightest spots. Many are making the comparisons to Attack on Titan. Given the nature of the show it was only inevitable. Still I liked it.
