Anime and videogames fans were excited not only to hear about a Shenmue anime but that it was coming to Toonami. The anime was thought to have done well with many thinking a season 2 was guaranteed. It seems that isn’t the case. The co-creator of Toonami Jason DeMarco took to twitter to not only confirmed the anime that was leaving HBO max but also that a season 2 for Shenmue isn’t happening. At least not now as Demarco says maybe down the road.
“Sorry guys. This happened. You can still watch all of the anime on Crunchyroll and it will still be available as digital downloads. And yes, it’s looking like no S2 of Shenmue, even though sadly- it did well enough that we were gearing up for S2. Maybe one day…” Demarco
Given how things have been split with Toonami and Crunchyroll it is no surprise that Shenmue, fena and Blade Runner are leaving. That said we can only hope these original animes they have mentioned fill the gap.
