The last of us episode 3 aired last night introducing us to Bill. but the way it did so is far different than we remember from the game. This will have some spoilers so stop and go check out he show before looking at the rest of this. AGAIN SPOILERS AHEAD.
When we met Bill in the game we see he is a survvior living mostly by himself keep track of this whole town. He has been hardened by the times by he is living in mostly ready to throw down at a moments notice. This Bill does appear in the show but not in the same way.
The show has him as that in the show but we see him as meets Frank. This is something we didn’t get to see in the game. This is due to the fact Frank is dead by the time Ellie and Joel meet Bill. Here he is alive as we see him and Bill meeting and living together.
That is one of the big turns here. The show takes a moment that we are introduced to another survivor and turns it into something both the fans of the game and the show can dig into as we see Frank and Bill live out there lives. This might be the biggest point as they live out there lives. Bill in the game didn’t know what happened to Frank only to see he took his own life saying he couldn’t do it anymore. The show changed that showing a loving side of the man with his eyes all over the place.
There is still harsh pain though as Bill leaves note for Joel talking about protecting what you love in regard to Tess. Another thing that is changed as we see How Joel and Tess got along with the boys. This brings us to Joel rules which in the game took place sooner than this. For the show given what has just happened and the letter from Bill it paints a more broad picture of Tess and Joel relationship. Thus more perfect to bring this up.
