Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4 is now done. With it out of there I decided to over it as a whole. This reaction will have spoilers if you do not want to be spoilers stop now and go check out the episode over at Crunchyroll.com. AGAIN SPOILERS AHEAD.
Bungou Stray Dogs season 4 gave us a nice new arc into for the series. It feels like odd as we are still in the middle of the arc but I started to look at season reaction so lets do so. We will start with the flash back. The series usually did Dazai as the flash back with us seeing his past in the port mafia. In season 2 we saw what made him join the agency after being an executive member for so long. the 3rd season was us seeing how he meet Chuya and how there bitter relationship started. This time though he wasn’t the focus.
Instead it was Ranpo and Fukuzawa. Through them we got to see the foundation of what would form the agency. The combination of super human deduction with the physical skills to match. Something we would touch on again. Though we also got to see a bit more of Ranpo and Fukuzawa as well. Fukuzawa was a man tired of killing. A position he had during the war but still wanted to use his skills. Ranpo had a brilliant mind but he had the similar issue Sherlock Holmes had in which he didn’t know how to turn off thus leaving him issues when getting along with people. the 2 combined were able to push through there issues. But this also served as a prelude to what thy would face as Fydoro was shown to be watching and that the 5 deadly omens were making moves long before the agency was founded. A nice hint to show the battle with Dazai dubbed demon is not over.
Back to the present we also got another prelude to the upcoming arc as the Agency was still dealing with Fyodor and how is communicating with the outside. This was being of understanding something grander as we met Mushitaro Oguri. His ability to erase evidence a crime be it technical or physical was a prelude to the grand thing with the agency as they deal with the deadly omens greatest tool the page. The page can wrap reality so if it changes something it isn’t new according to all records. It has always been there. We saw this with the Sky Casino. It was according to history there for 13 years after the war where in fact it was there for 8 days. A grand power that the omens used to turn on the agency making them criminals and it looked as though the agency has no way out. of it.
There member are criminals. Dazai has been arrested as well as the president. Thanks to the page from the book everyone believe it is them with no one believing them otherwise. This is what Fyodor tells Dazai. Combine that with the fact the hounds are them and it seems nearly impossible. The hounds being the military police elite modified ability users. It was nice to see this as for 3 season we were told the military police was the law but they really had no prescreens. Then here we see they have a big presence as no one want to tangle with them. Even the port Mafia want to avoid them and that says something given we were introduced to Akutagawa blowing up one of there station. A big statement.
So yes it was harsh for the agency as they had to turned there enemies. Fitzgerald and Mori. Both of whom wanted Akiko. Fitzgerald wanted her to get Nathanal back on his side and break Fyodor control. Something that seemed to be very holding on him despite Ann (The base for Fyodor control) being in Fitgerald care. As for Mori he has a dark history with Akiko during the war. Her past with him nearly drove her insane and with the Agency as it is he wanted to take advantage of it to get her back. We didn’t see this play out as the hounds interfered with that leaving us to see Tachihara is one of them as the series own magneto. Not as powerful as him as we see when the predator drone attack him he has trouble moving it. Magento would not. But it was a nice development to see with his character and overdue as he was the only member of the black blizzards who didn’t get a back story. This not only gave him a back story revealing his power. It also gave him a tie to Akiko.
A grim look at things considering all that happened. Plus Doppo is out of commission as well. But we saw in the end of the season something interesting. Issue with the page power. The page was shown to warp reality but we saw there were limits. Logic that can points to inconsistencies. With Oguri Ranpo was still able to find details that showed what the truth was. For Dazai he notices the issue with the sky casino and was able to deduce when it was made. With the end of the season we see that the Port Mafia although the Agency biggest enemy had no doubts the terrorist part was a lie. This despite the book whispering things in people minds that they should never believe Agency. Meaning that the book pages can change reality but the impact isn’t complete alteration. There are some wholes with its power to create. We see this from the Casino to the Sigma that the changes are not perfect and can be pointed out.
Thus here we are with this season in an odd place. Usually when the season ends the arc is done. But as we saw this will continue into season 5. We have seen the agency deal with gang war which was its battle in season 2 with the guild. Season 1 was us getting to see where the lines were drawn. As for Season 3 we saw them try to fight against force manipulation by Fyodor. This season is them entering a spy thriller with them facing the deadly omens as well as this section 7. A great half season 5 will be able to take and roll with as we want to see where this goes. A great season.
